On March 23, judging was held for The Home Vintner Wine Guild as a qualifier for the Alberta Amateur Winemaker’s Competition. This year the Provincial Competition is being held in Calgary on April 27. Twelve guild members entered 112 bottles of wine to be judged in 17 categories. All twelve members have bottles going forward to Provincial’s, including three brand new guild members submitting for the first time! Congratulations to all!
It was a very big couple of days making this event happen, and thanks go out to the judges, organizers and wine stewards that participated in the event. Having more trained judges for events such as this one is definitely a need going forward. If you are interested in learning more about becoming a judge and what is involved, please contact Paul at the NW Calgary location.
Now we all have to sit back and wait – to see how the guild represents! There were many brilliant wines that made for a very competitive competition. After the upcoming Provincial competition, the best bottles selected will qualify to move on to National’s. This year the National Competition will be held in Vancouver on September 4th and 5th.
Congrats again to the Guild members with wines moving forward to Provincials!
