After completing my ride along the scenic Ride to the Sun Road, I headed my bike towards Whitefish. There I found a great little microbrewery by the name of The Great Northern Brewing Company – the tallest building in Whitefish, Montana!
If you ever find yourself there, make sure you take the tour. At the completion of the tour, I ordered the Taster Tray. This region’s “Claim to Fame” is the huckleberry — there’s huckleberries everywhere – beer, pies, festivals – so what could I do but order the Wild Huckleberry Wheat Lager! This fruit beer was slightly hazy and pale, not bitter or overly sweet and extremely refreshing.
Next, I tried the Buckin’ Horse Pilsner. I found it to be very similar to our Barons Pil – a European style Pil with a crisp body and Saaz hop flavour and aroma.
Going to the Sun IPA was very good indeed! It was a true IPA with citrus cascade flavours dominating the palate, but did not overwhelm.
On to the Highlander Scottish Ale — I thought it could have had more intensity. I find that our recipe for this style of beer is truer to type with more complexity.
I also highly recommend their soda pop Root Beer! It really is worth adding to your Taster Tray.
And, that’s my homework for today!! Paul
