Amateur Wine Competition is the largest amateur winemaking competition in North America.  Wine kits compete side-by-side in a blind judging across all categories with wines made from grapes and/or juices.  At the April 2011 competition wines made with Winexpert's premium quality brands were awarded 220 medals bringing our total to 1766 medals in the 9 annual competitions held so far.

I feel badly for winemakers who invest in what they believe are good quality kits, build up a few hundred bottles in their cellar, only to discover that after a year their wines are going downhill.  Some brands on the market do not have the structure to age at all.  Our kits do.

Anyone who has managed to hide away any of our Selection, Estate or Limited Edition wines can vouch for how fabulous they can be after some years in the cellar.
In Step 4 of Winexpert directions (Racking and Clarification stage), it is recommended to add extra sulphite if you are going to age beyond six months.  This is because our kits contain very low sulphite levels compared to commercial wines.  This is something that is not necessary if you have good storage conditions.  A cooler, constant temperature is the important thing.
When choosing your wines for longer term aging, ask the staff for their recommendations.   Wines have different personalities, just like us

from Paul CEO of The Home Vintner

From reading the side panels on wine kit boxes, you’ll see that Winexpert kits contain concentrate, juice and other winemaking staples like acid and sulphite. However, just how these things came together to make your kit isn’t as obvious. For the most part, about 75% of the methods used to construct wine kits, in the beginning at least, are exactly the methods used in making wine.

A glossary is an alphabetical list of the specialized terms used in a field of knowledge. Kit winemaking is pretty specialized. And even if much of this terminology is obvious or well-known to experienced winemakers, there is still a real benefit to reading glossaries of things you already know. This helps you keep your knowledge sharp. And for first-time or fairly new winemakers, having one place to look for all these terms is useful as a reminder and as reinforcement of new knowledge.

Think about joining our Wine Guild! It's a great way to meet new friends who also enjoy making their own wine and beer. Bring $5 to help pay for the munchies, a bottle of your favourite wine and/or beer, and learn more about your hobby. A great way to have your wine / beer critiqued and also to try different styles. We also venture out on different field trips, some of which have been: a tour of Wild Rose Brewery / a tour of Fallentimber Meadery/ a tour of Fieldstone Wines / Oktoberfest, etc. We are very proud of our guild, whose members have won close to 600 awards, provincially, nationally and internationally. All Wine Guild meetings and Field Trips are posted on our website Events Calendar

Winexpert uses state-of-the-art processing and rigorous quality control procedures throughout the process of creating this beer kit, finishing off with unique, user-friendly packaging that preserves product freshness. This ensures the perfect product to begin your brewing experience.

This is one of my favorites - Domaine Des Brumes - Brouilly, the largest Cru in Beaujolais, is a wine noted for its aromas of blueberries, cherries, raspberries, strawberries  currants and floral notes.  Our brouilly is called Domaine des Brumes, a refreshing, easy drinking red revealing a slender texture, smooth tannins and a medium finish.  The Gamay grape is light and fruity in the same palette as a Beaujolais wine.  Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: Medium

World Vineyard German Muller Thurgau - $5 Off

Delicious flavours of apricot, green apple and peach aromas of Riesling, and the early ripening qualities of Silvaner. A great sipping wine, it's a perfect choice for potato chips (there's nothing like a crisp glass of Muller-Thurgau and some Lay’s chips!), but mostly it's a very satisfying wine to quench a thirst in good company.

The Müller-Thurgau, or Rivaner, is the second most widely planted grape in Germany and accounts for about a fifth of the total vineyard area. It is named after Professor Müller of Thurgau, Switzerland, who created it in 1882, by crossing Riesling and Gutedel . It yields about 30% more than Riesling and ripens earlier, usually in the latter part of September. While it requires less sun and makes few demands of the climate, it does need more rain than Riesling, as well as soil with good drainage. Its wines are generally light, with a flowery bouquet and less acidity than Riesling. Müller-Thurgau often carries a hint of Muscat in its flavor. The wines are best consumed while fresh and young. Dry versions are increasingly marketed under the synonym Rivaner. It is grown throughout German wine country.

Included with the kit - 15 G of Elderflower and flavour pack.

Sweetness: Off-Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: None

Canadian Pilsner - $4 OFF

Light in colour - slightly more hop flavour than typical domestic lagers with a smooth finish. This Pilsner is for those who want more flavour than found in a Canadian style beer. The flavour is balanced between sweet and bitter with a hint of buttery flavor. Comparable to a Czechoslovakian Pilsner. Try using 2278 Czech Pils liquid yeast - a classic pilsner strain from the home of pilsners for a dry but malty finish.

Our new Black Pilsner "add on pack" is now available! A dark German lager that balances roasted yet smooth malt flavours with moderate hop bitterness.  Light to moderate malt flavour, which can have a clean, neutral character to a rich, sweet, Munich-like intensity. Light to moderate roasted malt flavours can give a bitter-chocolate palate that lasts into the finish, but which are never burnt. Medium-low to medium bitterness, which can last into the finish. Light to moderate noble hop flavour. Clean lager character with no fruity esters or diacetyl. Aftertaste tends to dry out slowly and linger, featuring hop bitterness with a complementary but subtle roastiness in the background.
