Island Mist is a delicious alternative to everyday wines and wine coolers.  Combining the crisp freshness of distinctive varietal wines with full fruit flavours, this unique winemaking kit makes a fun, refreshing wine-based beverage to enjoy any time

Combining the mouth watering juiciness of North American cranberry with the plum, blackcurrant and sweet cherry of Argentinean Malbec makes a Mist that's luscious, lush and perfectly balanced for sweetness with a "drink-me-now" quality.  Serve with grilled foods and light fare or even just the lazy days of summer with sunshine and friends.

In September I moved into a house with two roommates and a lot of extra space. The carboys, empty bottles, wine rack, corks, and the "art of wine and beer making" certificate of attendance moved in soon after. My roommate Scott always wanted to make his own beer, and our house and its big basement provided the perfect opportunity. Scott loves beer and he loves saving money, so homebrew made sense. I was in complete support of Scott’s new hobby. Who doesn’t love cheap beer?

My previous experience with homebrew involved a friend’s very sketchy moonshine and my frugal grandfather’s basement brew. Scott originally started making beer to save money but his intentions shifted after attending a three hour wine and beer making course at the Home Vintner (that resulted in the aforementioned official certificate of attendance that remains on our fridge).  Posted by Annalise Klingbeil from Open File Community Powered News Calgary

Pat's Cherry Porter recipe is now available.  Each glass of Cherry Porter is lush and creamy with a fruity aroma.  Rich and sensual, the flavour is reminiscent of Black Forest cake, with sweet chocolate notes and a slightly smoky character from the roasted malts - add on pack includes Roasted Malt,  Chocolate Malt and Roasted Barley.  Watch for cherries, this will take 3 lbs of cherries for each 5 litres of wort.  Use the regular yeast or for extra dimension try Wyeast Irish Ale.

The hugely popular Chocolate Raspberry Port, Okanagan Peach Icewine, Blackberry Port and Selection International Gamay Nouveau are returning.  The products are all pre-order items with a deadline of July 31st.  All will then be available in September.

Full payment is required with your order.

Chocolate Raspberry Port - pre-order required

Multiple Gold medal winner at the last 4 WineMaker Amateur Wine Competitions.  Hugely popular, this wine is bursting with rich, intense flavours and aromas.  With a traditional Port character of warm, rounded cherry and plum, supported by a racy zing of bright raspberry.  Perfumed and gently tart with luscious liquid chocolate, beguiling with dark, bittersweet aromas of coffee and vanilla.  Toasty hints of oak guide the way to a long, rich finish.

 Blackberry Port - pre-order required

Native to the Americas, Blackberries are busting with intense fruit flavours.  Often used to describe Cabernet Sauvignon, blackberry aromas are deep and richly fruity.  This, along with lingering tannins and a gorgeous deep purple hue make it an excellent foil for the broad richness of Port.  Bright berry notes lift up this wine, making it a superb foil for intense cheese, roasted nuts and especially chocolate desserts.

Okanagan Peach Icewine Style - pre-order required

Gold Medal at the past 3 WineMaker Amateur Wine Competitions.  The Okanagan Valley lies in the rain shadow of British Columbia's Coastal mountains.  The region's very low annual average rainfall means that part of the valley is a true desert!  In this climate grapes ripen to perfect intensity, with notes of honey, apricot and spice.  Our Peach Icewine has deep floral notes, stone fruit and perfect sweetness, balanced with the sun-ripened perfume of a luscious peach.

LeGamay Nouveau returns - preorder required

Made with Gamay grapes sourced directly from France's Beaujolais region, Winexpert's Gamay Nouveau is a departure from our usual wines, where we recommend waiting 3 months or even longer to taste the first bottle.  Gamay Nouveau is ready to enjoy on bottling day, and while it will improve for a year, its bursting fruit, joyfully hedonic aromas and easy-drinking character will make it unlikely for a bottle to last that long.

The results are in with Winexpert products winning 220 medals, including the Best of Show Kit/Concentrate award for our Selection Estate Lodi Ranch 11 Cabernet SauvignonMany of our products win medals every year , check out the list to see the products that you make which won this year.  Our wine guild has won 500 provincial and national awards.

Thanks Daokata, I work at a Home brewing beer store and know that making beer at home has been taking off in Alberta mostly because of price - no hidden provincial tax, not even GST. New micro brewery style beer kits are now available - imagine drinking a micro brewery style 500 ml beer costing only 74 cents. The Home Vintner has taught over 9,000 hobbyists on brewing their own beer at home. A lot of people who truly get and enjoy real ales turn to handcrafting their own because the quality can now be achieved / Ron

It's been a few years since Winexpert last released a new variety in the Vintners Reserve line.  We are pleased to introduce two new products which are now available.

Diablo Rojo - Dark purple in colour with a nose of blackberry jam melded with creamy vanilla aromas and a touch of tobacco. Rich in the mouth, with gently smooth tannins and rich, ripe plum and berry flavours. The finish is long and fruit-filled. This off dry wine is perfect for enjoying right away, delicious with robust foods and excellent all on its own.

Ángel Blanco - An easy drinking, well-rounded white wine, with appealing fruit flavours and aromas. Rich and boldly fruity from a multi-vinifera blend that delivers up a floral aromatic nose and a fine mix of peachy, honey, pineapple fruit finishing with a perfect balance of acidity and fruitiness. Serve well chilled before dinner or pair it up with spicy foods to tame the heat and complement your cuisine.

Vintner's Reserve - continues to set the standard in it's category by yielding wines of excellent quality, flavour and aroma.

Vintner's Reserve World Vineyard - featuring popular grape varietals, with grape juices and concentrates from some of the finest growing regions in the world, this 10 litre kit produces high quality wines that you can enjoy within one month after bottling.

Vintner's Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon Bronze Award Winner

Cabernet Sauvignon is a dry red wine that becomes more complex and subtle with aging.  Signature aromas in its youth include blackcurrant, cassis, blackberry and oak.  As it ages, it takes on notes of seductive spices, anise, violets, leather, olive, tobacco and cigar box.  It can be quite tannic when young (so decant it for an hour or two if you aren't going to age it).  The tannins smooth out with age.

Cabernet is planted worldwide because its tough skin resists disease and rot.  It does especially well in regions with warm, dry conditions and a long growing season such as California's Napa and Sonoma Valleys, Paso Robles and in Chile, Argentina and South Africa.  Cabernet was originally created by crossing the white grape Sauvignon Blanc and the red grape Cabernet Franc.  Cabernet Sauvignon, like Chardonnay, Merlot and Pinot Noir, is one of the world's most popular wines.

Vintner's Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Silver Award Winner

The flavour is full and dry, with a fruity, herbaceous character, which finishes crisp and clean.  The varietal identity of Sauvignon Blanc is typically similar to grass, bell-pepper, or grapefruit in nature.  New Zealanders liken it to "gooseberry", but that is not a familiar smell or flavor to most Americans.

Sauvignon Blanc is usually quite distinctive and one of the easier varietal wines to recognize by its often sharp, aggressive smell.  With naturally high acidity, Sauvignon Blanc is always tangy, tart, nervy, racy,  zesty keeping it from being cloying and sticky-tasting.

Dry-style Sauvignon or Fumé Blancs are very versatile in accompanying foods and can handle components such as tomatoes, bell peppers, cilantro, raw garlic, smoked cheeses or other pungent flavors that would clash with or overpower many Chardonnays and almost all other dry whites. In fact, Sauvignon Blanc is probably the best dry white wine to accompany the greatest variety of foods.

World Vineyard Italian Barolo

Medium in body with a luminous dark cherry colour our Barolo has rich, spicy fruit and delivers the true character of the grape and land.  Typical flavours are cherries, violets, black licorice, truffles and it finishes with rich, chewy, deep and long-lasting flavour.  Burly, assertive ‘chewy’ wine, it is not for the faint of heart, but for those seeking intensity and complexity, there is nothing else like Barolo.

Nebbiolo grapes take their name from fog (nebbia). Notoriously demanding to grow, they require sheltered south-facing sites with well drained chalky soil, but yield grapes with high tannins, good extract and very importantly for this long-lived style, bracing acidity for structure and age ability.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: Light

World Vineyard Italian Pinot Grigio Silver Award Winner

In Italy, the Pinot Grigio grape has been cultivated for more than a century. The Pinot Grigio grape is genetically related to Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, and is easily subject to color mutation. The skin color of the grapes can range from a bluish gray to a delicate pink, depending on the clone and the geographic zone. In fact, the word "Grigio" means gray in Italian, although the juice is drawn off the skins before the skins impart a tint to the wine.

With a climate known for "cool nights and warm days," conditions are conducive to exceptional grape maturation.  This wine has a clear, straw yellow color, with light golden reflections. With tropical fruit notes that make this unique vintage truly exotic, with apple and pineapple aromas and flavors.  The wine is light bodied, with a pleasantly soft palate and a long finish.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Light-Medium | Oak Intensity: None

Canadian Pilsner

Light in colour - slightly more hop flavour than typical domestic lagers with a smooth finish.  This Pilsner is for those who want more flavour than found in a Canadian style beer.  The flavour is balanced between sweet and bitter with a hint of buttery flavor.  (Comparable to a Czechoslovakian Pilsner)
