Wine on Sale

January's Australian Shiraz/Viognier - a few still available.  A Best of Show award winner was used as the foundation plus 10% Viognier.

January's Pacifica White - sold out

February's Italian Primitivo - was sold out, however we were able to obtain another skid of this very popular offering.  This will be a beautiful wine worthy of ageing.

March's Gruner Veltliner - just arrived

April's Portuguese Douro Tinto - will be amazing!

Pre-ordered kits are now available for pick up.  We did order a few extras so first-come-first served if you want one.

Gruner Veltliner is the most widely planted grape in Austria, accounting for 37% of all vineyards in the country.

Until the mid 80's Gruner Veltliner was produced for quantity rather than quality. The past few decades have seen a significant rise in quality (premium growing techniques) and a rise of Gruner Veltliner on the world stage.

Wine geeks have known of this amazing wine for some time and it is now gaining popularity on trendy restaurant wine lists across Canada (Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver). Incredible with shellfish and seafood.

Gruner Veltliner is crisp and minerally with nice fruit flavours, similar in character to dry Riesling (particularly Okanagan), without the floral note usually associated with Riesling.  Gruner Veltliner also draws comparisons with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris.

It will drink well young (if a little simple), but will age better than almost all other white wine.  Ours will need age to bring out the complexity of flavours.

First time ever - all wines in this series are 10% off in March!  These wines are popular, some are blends, they have consistently won awards every year at the WineMaker International Amateur Competition.  Selection Premium Wine Kits contain 15 liters of 100% pure varietal grape juice and varietal grape concentrate, with perfectly balanced pH, acid and tannin levels. The large volume of pure grape juice in the blend provides more of the subtle characteristics than grape concentrate alone.  Certain kits contain "F-packs" or finishing packs designed to enhance flavor and round out sweetness in those styles which require it.  The "F-packs" are style specific and will be noted on the outside of the box if one is included.  All Selection Premium Wine Kits are packaged in an aseptic, nitrogen purged bag.  The kits produce 23 litres of wine (30-750 ml bottles).

1 litre easy cap beer bottles $3.95 each - we are one of the only suppliers of the 500 ml easy cap bottles in Calgary.  Now we have found a supply of 1 litre bottles.  I have used these before and they are great in the summer when a lot of beer is required.

1.5 litre wine bottles $2.49 each - I like to use 2 or 3 of these when I bottle each kit.  They are great for taking to a party, rather than walking in with 2 bottles I just take in one.  I have a special storage space and let these age the longest!  One great way to impress your friends.

Available March 5 - we are pleased to introduce our new Cranberry Malbec to the Island Mist line up $66.95.  The crisp tartness of Cranberry enveloped with the robust fruity structure of Malbec makes this a perfect blend.

Starting March 5 -purchase 2 Island Mist wine kits and receive a set of 4 Island Mist Govino glasses free (a value of $20)!  The Govino Go Anywhere wineglass can be used anywhere that breakable glass is an issue, such as the beach, picnics, camping, or just hanging around with friends in the backyard.  It is made from a proprietary polymer and is superior to others in that it acts more like crystal, reflecting the wine's colour and aromatics.  In essence, it's like drinking from glass but is shatterproof.

With summer fast about some great beverages to help keep you refreshed during those hot summer days?  Pick up your free Island Mist recipe booklet the next time you are in the store.

My neighbour uses a garbage pail as a primary, is this OK?

With all the news about the toxins in plastic it is good to be informed.  We have had a lot of customers asking about our primaries.   Plastics 2, 4, 5 are safer; 1, 3, 6, 7 should be avoided.  If your primary has no code it should be avoided.

Ever wonder what it would be like to taste the first sip of a batch of carefully brewed craft beer?  Baron's Brew Kits leaves that honor to you. The Baron’s Beer Kit is the novice's dream.  Our unique beer-in-bag kit requires no boiling and no mess.  The process is simple, and provides the home brewer with a quality brew time after time.  A personal favorite, and recommendation for those who want a great summer beer is the Mexican Cerveza -  nothing quenches better than this – light and easygoing and on sale in March.  Fresh, bright, light bodied, clean flavour - great on the patio and beach.  Comparable to a Pacifico.  How about a lime, raspberry, blueberry or mango Cerveza?  Recipes will be in our stores soon.

Twisted Mist $79.95 - It's time once again to get Twisted!  Following the highly successful introductory launch of Twisted Mist last year we have decided to bring them back. Returning will be the popular Mojito and a reformulated Strawberry Margarita (not quite as sweet this time), also joining Twisted Mist will be new Lime Margarita and a Margarita combo-pack that produces 15 750ml bottles of Lime and Strawberry Margarita. All three Twisted Mists will be available the first week of April.

Selection International Spanish Rosé $129.95 - Last year Winexpert decided to take a break from Spanish Rosé but had so many e-mails from retailers and consumers alike that they missed their favourite summertime Rosé, that we are bringing it back for another season.  Winexpert Spanish Rosé is a luscious combination of Spanish red and white grapes, including the silky and seductive Tempranillo, which together creates a perfect Spanish Rosé that should be enjoyed while young, crisp and refreshing.  Available the first week in April.

Barons Lime Lager $31.95 - No Spring would be complete without a light easy to drink beer. Last year we introduced Barons Lime Lager for the first time and it was a big success.  This year we are bringing it out earlier for consumers to enjoy right from the beginning of the season. Barons Lime Lager is a refreshing American light-style beer with a bracing splash of pure lime flavour and a crisp zesty finish. Barons Lime Lager will be available in the first week of April.

Estate Small Lots 3 Continents Red and White will be available in May.  To guarantee that you will obtain this limited product we recommend that you pre-order.  Small Lots due to the scarce availability of this product - once they're gone, they're gone!  New this year is the 3 Continents white.  Well, last night I opened one of these precious bottles.  To my great delight, aromas of rich fruits, black cherry, & chocolate filled the room.  This wine is under a year - I cannot imagine what it is going to be like past a year and even at 2 years of age!

Vintner's Reserve - continues to set the standard in it's category by yielding wines of excellent quality, flavour and aroma.

Vintner's Reserve World Vineyard - featuring popular grape varietals, with grape juices and concentrates from some of the finest growing regions in the world, this 10 litre kit produces high quality wines that you can enjoy within one month after bottling.

 Vintner's Reserve Chamblaise $67.95

It has rich aromas of fresh-picked pear and green apple with a hint of freshly-mowed grass.  Herbal flavors of melon rind, white peach, and pear.  Dry and crisp, amazingly great just 3 days after bottling!
Sweetness: Dry | Body: LIGHT-Medium | Oak Intensity: None

Blended from quality Chenin Blanc and Colombard grapes, this juice produces a crisp, semi-dry wine, with a clean, refreshing aftertaste.

Vintner's Reserve Chianti Style $76.95

Chianti is a dry ruby red wine made from red Sangiovese grapes out of Italy.  Used often as a dinner wine, it is named after the Chianti wine-growing region located in Tuscany.  It is one of the most popular wines to have with pasta, pizza, chicken, red meat and cheese.

On the nose you will notice a blend of wildflowers, berries, cherries and plums.  Chianti has a bold, strong flavor because of the acidity of the grapes and their skins, also known as tannins.  This robust wine bursts with flavours of berries, cherries, plums, spices and herbs.
Sweetness: Dry | Body: LIGHT-Medium | Oak Intensity: LIGHT

World Vineyard Chilean Merlot $84.95

Originating from the world famous Maipo Valley wine region in Chile, this deep brick-red Merlot displays predominant blackberry and plum aromas with delicate herbaceous and floral notes, a pleasant mineral touch and oaky vanilla.  The real CHEEKY-ness of this wine is found in the taste where flavours of fruit, cedar, earth and spice join to create a well structured wine with moderate tannins.  Merlot is a perfect partner for red meats, lamb, and hearty stews.
Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: LIGHT

World Vineyard Italian Pinot Grigio $77.95

Italy's most popular white wine is produced from the Pinot Grigio or Pinot Gris grape varietal. This wine hails from the northeast region of Veneto and Friuli.  A light, crisp white wine that is intended to be consumed early on.  Melon, pear with a subtle tropical citrus fruit taste, there is a honey or smoky flavor component as well.  As for color, Pinot Grigio is a pale, straw-like yellow with some golden hues thrown in.  The texture of a Pinot Grigio is worth noting, as it has very smooth, almost silk-like overtones that leave an impression on the palate.
Sweetness: Dry | Body: Light-Medium | Oak Intensity: None
