"Very educational! I love the continued support"! Jody

"The class was fabulous, very informative, friendly. I took my brother with me and he was blown away, so now we want to make beer, I cant wait to take others to the next class. 5 ***** Thank You". Debbie

"I was initially nervous to try making wine, but taking the class with Paul, Ron & Wayne gave me confidence to try it.  I ask a lot of questions, and Paul never makes you feel stupid for asking. He doesn't speak down to you, and is genuinely encouraging. He is a really interesting person too. And the people in the store in Cochrane reflect this as well". Ruth

"It was SUCH a GREAT experience!! We attended as we were making our first 2 kits, now we are on #4 and considering port and beer in our near future! There was such amazing knowledge shared, I think going once or twice a year would be great". Kristen

Join Paul, Ron and Wayne as they make both a wine & beer kit in front of the class.

If you have taken this course before and would like a refresher there is no charge for you and a guest.

PAUL'S RANT -SWIRL, SNIFF, SIP & SPIT (BUT only spit out bad wine !!)

When you carry only the best quality wine kits on the market, you want people to pay attention to what's in their glass.

Swirling - the wine mixes it gently with air and releases its aromas.

Sniffing - bring the glass up to your nose and inhale deeply. Decide if the aromas are generally pleasing or not. Sniff a few more times to identify aromas of flowers / fruits / vegetables. If you smell nothing, the wine is probably very bland.

Sipping - swish the wine around your mouth to add new information about the wine's texture and balance. The taste should underline and expand your perception of the aromas.

Spitting - if you feel the need to spit out the wine, then it's time to come and see us at The Home Vintner !!!!

from Paul CEO of The Home Vintner

If you check our event calendar you will notice that our wine & beer making classes at all locations sell out early.  Week after week, 12 months a year, we offer classes to assist clients in the art of wine & beer making.  In this newsletter we have added some of the accolades received in February.  The trend is a younger group who want to make the best, they are well travelled and know what they like.  Yes we can help you make whatever wine and beer you enjoy.  The bottom line is there is no tax, no GST, no hidden Provincial taxes.  Like I say at the class you can make many of our products for less than the tax you don't pay!

Grown for centuries in France, our Viognier is planted in California where it flourishes making a wonderful wine with aromas of apricots, peaches, jasmine, even orange blossom and mint with crisp apple-pear flavours.

A discerning feature of the grape is its low acidity: this is the secret of its youthful drinking and luscious, easygoing charms.

New - With succulent peach and juicy tropical fruit flavours, there’s a lot to love about new California Moscato, it is one of the top-selling white wines in North America.

When developing this wine, we profiled it after Barefoot Cellars Moscato – the top selling Moscato in the U.S. In blind tasting at Winexpert and at Andrew Peller Limited, not only did our World Vineyard California Moscato score exceptionally well, but it received the exact same scores as the Barefoot Moscato.  Now available.

This New - This is a delicious sangria!  Sweet, ripe raspberries mix with juicy peach undertones for the perfect summer sangria: fruity, refreshing, and easy drinking Raspberry Peach Sangria.  Now available.

Island Mist is a delicious alternative to everyday wines.  Combining the crisp freshness of distinctive varietal wines with full fruit flavours, this makes a inique fun, refreshing wine-based beverage to enjoy anytime.  In preparing for summer - our very popular wine cooler "Island Mist" is on sale during March - $5 off.

"I found your website to be very informative; most of the knowledge I gained about making beer and the equipment involved before I started was from THV website". Michael

"THV is awesome the staff have huge amounts of knowledge and are more than happy to share the knowledge with less experienced wine makers, whenever I have a question I get good clear guidance right away". Nancy

"THV is great, if you're in the middle of a batch and have a question, real help is only a phone call away". Jeremy

"I have been purchasing wine kits from THV for four years. I have always received excellent service, advice and assistance. The products are exceptional and I would never consider purchasing anywhere else". Merry

"You guys are doing an awesome job!!!! Keep up the good work!!!" Jody

"I've made wine from grapes and other kits but the help and quality of THV kits are far superior. I will be a lifetime customer".  Anthony

James wrote: "My partner Paul and I went to your stores yesterday and was impressed by the friendly atmosphere and great wealth of knowledge. Derrick at the NE store was really cool, and told us to go see Ron at the NW store. Sure glad we did, always looking to learn new things, even after 6 years and about 100 kits later. We'll be back!"

Thanks for the complement, see you the next time you visit Calgary,

World Vineyard Italian Pinot Grigio - $5 Off

Our number 1 best seller!!  In Italy, the Pinot Grigio grape has been cultivated for more than a century. The Pinot Grigio grape is genetically related to Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, and is easily subject to color mutation. The skin color of the grapes can range from a bluish gray to a delicate pink, depending on the clone and the geographic zone. In fact, the word "Grigio" means gray in Italian, although the juice is drawn off the skins before the skins impart a tint to the wine.  With a climate known for "cool nights and warm days," conditions are conducive to exceptional grape maturation. This wine has a clear, straw yellow color, with light golden reflections. With tropical fruit notes that make this unique vintage truly exotic, with apple and pineapple aromas and flavors. The wine is light bodied, with a pleasantly soft palate and a long finish.

"I live in Saskatoon where there are very few home brew supply stores and even fewer who know anything about brewing beer. Liquid yeast is non existent! I found THV via an Internet search this spring and have been very impressed with the amount of quality information provided. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to stop by one of your stores personally, however every time I know someone who is heading to Calgary, I get them to stop and pick me up a Barons kit. I would even consider driving to Calgary specifically to attend one of your advanced beer making classes! I look forward to trying more of your recipes as time allows". Darcy

“This is my favourite beer-kit shop! I bought their Pale Ale kit, and it was quite tasty; the employee even suggested I should add some oak chips to the Pale Ale if I wanted to make it an authentically true India Pale Ale. I took one of The Home Vintner’s courses to make sure I did everything correctly for my homebrew and I learned more than I expected. The pale ale was very flavoursome, reminding me of Australia's Coopers Sparkling Ale.  The staff were very helpful and the consistency of the beer is very high. I would buy another.”
- Paul I.

“I thought that I was very knowledgeable about wine and beer, that is until I took one of The Home Vintner’s beer and wine making classes. There is so much out there they don’t tell you at the stores or even read online, but these classes cover them all. Plus, it never hurts to gain more information on proper cheese pairings, I was never very good at that myself. All in all, I learned so much and feel much more confident in my brewing skills; I would recommend these guys to anyone looking to bone up on their beer and wine knowledge.”
- Gracey J.

This is a winner!!  Deep chestnut coloured ale with a full-bodied, roasted malt flavour. Precisely balanced with hop flavour, aroma, and maltiness to bring out this beer's true character! This brown ale is more full bodied and flavorful than lagers in general, thereby providing a nice autumn or winter drink as well as many food pairing possibilities. With its smooth mouth feel, lightly roasted sweet malt taste, and subtle nutty butteryness Baron's Brown Ale makes for a very pleasant drink similar to our English neighbors Newcastle.

Try this Ale with 1056 American Ale yeast.

Add 2 cups honey to carboy and make a Honey Brown or purchase our award winning Stout additive pack at $12.95 and produce our Award winning Stout! With roasted milled barley, oatmeal and Cascade Hops you will enjoy the adventure of simmering these grains and adding them to your Brown Ale Kit. Try Wyeast 1084 Irish Ale yeast. If stored in a glass bottle try aging your stout - had a bottle that was 4 years old, it was amazing!
