Modifying your wine

Winemaking is an art, and many people who make their own wine at home, do so because they enjoy the process of it.  Part of this process is modifying and tinkering with your work in progress.

Don’t forget that the Home Vintner staff are experts in our field, and we are here to answer any and all questions that you might have. While we encourage customers to be creative and modify kits, more than anything we want our customers to get the highest quality possible in their finished product.

We encourage our customers to talk to our friendly, knowledgeable staff prior to modifying any kits, chances are we’ve tried a similar modification ourselves and can offer guidance!  Not all modifications, however well intentioned, work to get the best out of your kit.  For example, adding oak chips to a fruity, aromatic wine, such as the LE2013 South African Viognier, Chenin Blanc and Roussanne blend, unfortunately only serves to flatten the complexity.

Remember, winemaking is equal parts science and art, and the Home Vintner staff is readily available to help guide you. You can contact us by phone, email or even twitter! @TheHomeVintner
