A few months back, when Paul was in Ontario visiting his Mom, he took in a few wineries in the area! ( Naturally! Got to do his homework for his customers!) One of them was Mastronardi Estate Winery in Kingsville, Ontario. He fully knows how much I love my Pinot Grigios, and so he brought home a bottle of their 2010 VQA Lake Erie North Shore Pinot Grigio.
This is one of the best Pinot Grigios I have EVER tasted, and bonus – it’s Canadian, and not the Okanagan either! The nose on this wine just leapt out of the glass. It is crisp and clean with bright acidity and an opulent mouth feel of grapefruit, pear, green apple and a hint of honeydew melon. An essence of honey continues through to the crisp, clean finish. Apparently the 2010 growing season in this part of Ontario produced exceptionally high quality grapes which contributed to the rosy gold colour of this Pinot Grigio. It would pair wonderfully with seafood, light pastas, and creamy cheeses.
If you love Pinot Grigios, and find yourself in southwestern Ontario, go and check them out >> Mastronardi Estate Winery, 1193 Concession 3 East, Kingsville, Ontario. ( And bring me back a bottle!) Actually, I would prefer a case or two!! It’s THAT good!
