What a beautiful evening for our annual Wine Guild BBQ on Sat July 16th! And the response was amazing : 20+ people showed up in the awesome backyard of Craig & Cari. The table was groaning with the amount of food and people brought some very nice wines from their cellars.
This was the first time I tasted the Limited Edition Austrian Gruner Veltliner and the Limited Edition Australian Shiraz Viognier. Both were very nice indeed! But the “wine of the night” was from Ken Gibson ( who has taken Winemaker of the Year on several occasions ) – a 2001 Vintage Demerara Port, made from scratch with Saskatoon berries. It was smooth as silk with a luscious nose and berry flavours. Given the age of the wine, there was a distinct bloom ( shedding ) along the inside of the bottle. It was really hard getting the bottle away from Ron, but we managed! And, it was nice to see that Ken has made a lot of New Best Friends!!!!!!! :o)
I hope everyone is enjoying their summer – the holidays, the BBQs ,the road trips – however you have chosen to spend your summer – even if it’s just enjoying your fine wines out on the deck or patio. Cheers!
