AIRBORNE YEAST VS THE HOME VINTNER'S PRIMARIES Cross contamination between airborne beer yeast and wine yeast is always a concern. And, for our rural customers, another problem is "eau du moo"!! A "barnyard bouquet" can be appropriate in a well aged burgundy, but absolutely not for other styles of wine or beer! The Home Vintner carries 30 L primaries with a snap down air tight seal, along with a bung and airlock, to protect the wine and beer. We recommend 1 primary exclusively for wine and 1 exclusively for beer. This insures no crossover of odours between the two. If you notice scratches in your primary, this could be trapping bacteria, and this is a good time to replace the primary. Our primaries are the highest quality plastic available on the market today, with a 5 Code. The next level up would be to step up to our new stainless steel primaries, which are completely neutral. This is the same caliber used by wineries to ferment both wine and beer. - from Paul BUYER BEWARE - OUR PROMISE TO OUR CUSTOMERS The Home Vintner guarantees our kits 100%! Most stores don't, but it is easy for us to offer this service as we carry the best kits on the market. We absolutely do not want our customers to drink any wine or beer from a kit that isn't 100% in quality. We educate our customers with classes, utilizing proper techniques to make award winning wine and beer. Yes, we will even guarantee our kits if YOU make a mistake as long as you use our corks and caps. Rick S, customer of the Airdrie store, accidentally added water to his Chocolate Raspberry Port! He was delighted when we replaced it for him and stated, "I didn't expect this!" Remember, we will always stand behind our product! - from Paul
SUGGESTION FROM OUR WINE MAKER OF THE YEAR With the closing of a number of local wine kit stores we are seeing an influx of new customers. We are discovering a lot of old school techniques and out of date methods. My suggestion is if you are new to The Home Vintner, enroll in one of our weekly wine and beer making classes. Invest an evening and learn current processes. When you use our techniques you will be rewarded with the best home crafted wine. - from Ron at the NW store.

BEER ON SALE IN FEBRUARY - $4 OFFRedwood Ale Deep copper with hints of garnet and amber. Big, round, rich, full-bodied brown ale in the English style - our Redwood has a complex taste with perfect balance. It is full of flavour, with notes of toast, fruit and nuts. The superior maltiness and body in this flavoursome ale are derived from a special blend of blonde and crystal malt. Full and refreshing.
Redwood Chocolate Ale is made with 500 gm of chocolate malt available with our recipe. The final product is an extremely dark, rich ale. Redwood has become my favorite because it's snappy and robust. The chocolate creates a great background flavour that, in it's own way is a bit mellow. I may be biased here because I am a chocoholic but this ale tends to leave a very characteristic taste that lingers on long after the last mouthful - from Rob the creator of this great beer!
