IMPORTANCE OF THE HYDROMETER
One of the most important tools in your wine & beer making process is the hydrometer.
The principle of the hydrometer is to measure the density of your wine & beer. As the wine & beer ferments creating alcohol, the hydrometer will sink deeper into the wine & beer, giving you important readings as to the progress of your fermentation.
Over the years The Home Vintner has educated over 9,000 wine & beer makers through our classes, stressing the importance of taking readings. It is essential to take a reading BEFORE you pitch the yeast; BEFORE stabilizing; & BEFORE bottling.
Nov 5th @ 7 pm The Home Vintner is hosting a fundraising charity event in Airdrie. Tickets are $15 and all proceeds from this Wine Appreciation and Tasting will go to Volunteer Airdrie group. Paul will pair both white and red wines with compatible cheese and chocolate. These events are always fun and informative and feedback is always very positive.
Last month, we raised over $1000 for the Airdrie & District Humane Society, with more planned for the future. Charity work and wine are very important to The Home Vintner, so we combined the two - a perfect pair!
Other charities that we donate to include First Step Children’s Fund in Sierra Leone Africa, The Salvation Army, The Poppy Fund, Doctors Without Borders, The Mustard Seed, and The Red Cross.
Nov 6th @ 7 pm – Wine Guild Meeting - Bring $5, a bottle of your favourite wine and let's learn more about wine (& beer)! We will have a short meeting and then judge each other's wines. Always a fun and informative evening. Call Pat or Paul @ 403-284-0486 for location. Always interested in new members!
