Paul with daughter Jessica recently attended the annual Winexpert Conference in Vancouver.  While at the Conference Paul was asked to be part of the Winexpert Advisory Council.  This will involve direct input with the main decision makers at Winexpert.

Fall is here and for winemakers that means one thing: the inevitable return of our sworn enemy - the common fruit fly. Minute little flying monkeys of doom, they're hard to exclude from your winemaking areas, and while they're easy to kill, by the time you've swatted one, thirteen more have materialized out of thin air, looking for a free meal! more

Looking for the person who brought in a "Pumpkin Cerveza" beer for tasting to our NW Store (bottled March 14).  Pat from our Airdrie store was thirsty and found this beer in our fridge.  "OMG, it was fabulous!  There was a hint of spice and a nice pumpkin flavour".  Please let us know how you made this beer.  Our beer enthusiasts often tweak their Baron's beer kits by enhancing them with other things.  For example we have a simple recipe to make a honey brown.  Best recipe submitted in October will receive a free beer kit.

At our free wine and beer making classes Paul demonstrates the making of a wine kit from the first steps right through to removing the CO2 and proper corking.  Years of experience shared so that the novice wine maker can be successful on their first attempt.  For those who have made wine for years there are new methodologies which will improve your end result.  Also, step by step Paul walks through the making of a beer kit with secrets shared so your first kit will be a success.

Vintners Reserve Shiraz  $81.95

Australia's own big red' entry on the world stage, Shiraz boasts an incredible concentrated blend of blackberry fruit, spice and chocolate, all within a firm structure that keeps it together beautifully. A stunning, mouth-filling, dark and delicious treat.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: Light

Vintners Reserve Pinot Gris  $73.95

Verging on the golden-yellow, this wine has a medium body with aromas of apple, pear and melon, and drinks well while still young.
Great with arugula salad, peppered white fish, creamy cheeses and stone fruits.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Light-Medium | Oak Intensity: None

World Vineyard Chilean Malbec $84.95

The hot dry climate allows the grapes to reach excellent ripeness, and lush fruity characters, making an intense, black wine. A thick-skinned grape full of colour, tannin and flavour, Malbec makes wines of great power and character, with blackberry, plums, tar, red pepper, sweet cherry, spice, licorice and deep bittersweet notes, almost like unsweetened chocolate, or espresso.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: Light

World Vineyard South African Chenin Blanc $77.95

Chenin Blanc is a late ripening grape, which brings intense flavour development. Unusual for a grape that hangs so long, it retains crisp acidity, underpinning bright flavours of green apple, tropical fruit and melons, with a distinctly floral nose and a juicy, quenching finish.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: None

Barons Canadian Pilsner

Slightly more hop flavour than typical domestic lagers with a smooth finish. Light in colour, but full in flavour. For those who want a little more flavour in a Canadian style beer.
