• Chocolate Salted Caramel Dessert Wine
• Chocolate Orange Dessert Wine
• Chocolate Raspberry Dessert Wine
PLEASE PRE-ORDER, as these are always in great demand and short supply! Pre-orders must be submitted before June 8th.
Our Chocolate dessert wines are fabulous for seasonal entertaining. These wines will echo the characteristics of your desserts. Imagine a Black Forest cake , a chocolate truffle cake with raspberry sauce, or how about some high quality dark chocolate with orange or cherry filling, or simply chocolate covered raisins?
Rule number 1 : Dessert wines should be at least as sweet , if not a touch sweeter, than the dessert you are serving it with. Otherwise, they may not pair well.
These wines are perfect to enjoy with your family and friends!
Light and refreshing on the palate with flavours of fresh strawberry, raspberry & cherry. Pink Moscato pairs wonderfully with fruit kabobs, spicy dishes, Chinese takeout and sweet desserts.
Arriving the first part of June.

AGLC ANNOUNCED INCREASES IN THEIR MARK-UP RATE SCHEDULE MARCH 27, 2015
One of the last taxes to be raised by the PCs was the Alberta Gaming & Liquor Commission (ALGC) mark-up rate on wine & beer.
ABOUT WINE: When you purchase a 750ml bottle of wine from a liquor store in Alberta, you pay two taxes:
• AGLC mark-up rate for 750 ml wine under 16% alcohol was $2.59, now it is $2.75 a bottle.
• GST on the entire purchase including GST on the AGLC tax. So you are paying tax on a tax!
No tax is payable on homemade wine kits. Do the math $2.75 ALGC plus GST a bottle = $2.89, our wine kits produce 28 bottles, so the tax you don’t pay is $80.92. Many of our wine kits cost less than the tax you don’t pay.
• The AGLC standard mark-up rate for beer was $.98 per litre plus GST. Since March 2015 it is now $1.20 per litre plus GST. Our beer kits produce 23 litres, so the tax you don’t pay is $1.20 AGLC plus GST = $1.26 x 23 litres = $28.98. Once again you can buy a whole beer kit for close to the tax you don’t pay.
It's a great time to get ahead for the summer tax free.

One of the problems in Calgary and areas at high altitude is the difficulty in removing the C02 gas from the wine after fermentation ceases.
We dissuade our customers from beating the gas out of the wine with attachments connected to a drill, as after a number of days with this abuse to the wine, it can make the wine taste "tired" including the loss of fruit forwardness. Most of our customers use a Vacuvin to remove the C02 without oxygenating the wine.
The rental of our Home Vintner degassers is a speedier process to remove the C02 gas. These are exclusive to The Home Vintner and rental is for our customers ONLY.
BEER CORNER - NEW THIS MONTH
Amarillo hops! Available in 45 gram packets, Amarillo are medium strength, spicy and flowery with a distinctive orange bouquet. Great for both bittering and aroma, these versatile hops may be used with anything from an American wheat beer to a red ale. They are so special that the plants are patented. They are only grown by one farm in Washington state.
And no, they were not named after a city in Texas! Amarillo (pronounced Ah-mah-REE-oh) is the Spanish word for "yellow", the predominant colour of the lupulin in Amarillo hops.

Introducing a unique and delicious Island Mist flavour that will have you in a vacation state of mind with the first sip. New Coconut Yuzu Pinot Gris is flavoured with coconut water and has a tropical splash of Yuzu and hint of lime.
Not familiar with Yuzu? Yuzu [pronounced YOO-zoo] is a Japanese citrus fruit which is about the size of a tangerine. It's being hailed as the next super fruit and is being used to flavour everything from beer to chewing gum. It tastes like a cross between a lemon, mandarin and grapefruit and its sourness and acidity plays well against the coconut notes and sweetness of Island Mist.
