As a rule, the higher the SG in a wine or beer equates to a higher caliber kit.  I’m privileged to be part of the Advisory Council for Winexpert.  Last week I was in Toronto to meet the powers that be from Winexpert to give feedback on the industry.  Winexpert is still totally committed to being DISTINCTLY better than any of the other brands.  In every industry there’s always the “Wannabe’s”. Compare our Vintners Reserve SG starting at 1.080 – 1.097, Eclipse starting at 1.080 – 1.100 and Barons Beer starting up to 1.057. Warning: you can always move up in quality but you can’t go backwards.

From Paul CEO of The Home Vintner

Each glass of Cherry Porter is lush and creamy with a fruity aroma.  Rich and sensual, the flavour is reminiscent of Black Forest cake, with sweet chocolate notes and a slightly smoky character from the roasted malts.  To create this porter use a Barons Brown Ale with 15 lbs of whole cherries or our Cherry Puree and our add on package.

From Pat manager of the Airdrie store

We have designed our website to give you knowledge, step by step instructions for both wine and beer making.  (The crazy thing is word for word I see our material and promotions appearing on our competitors materials).  World wide, people seek for our knowledge.  Visits to our website in the last 30 days: 67,000 from the USA, 19,000 for the United Kingdom, 8,882 from India, and 6,371 from Canada.  Please visit our website and use our search engine on the left side of the home page for information

From Ron NW manager, 2011 AB Winemaker of the Year

From reading the side panels on wine kit boxes, you’ll see that Winexpert kits contain concentrate, juice and other winemaking staples like acid and sulphite. However, just how these things came together to make your kit isn’t as obvious. For the most part, about 75% of the methods used to construct wine kits, in the beginning at least, are exactly the methods used in making wine.

The best wines you can make - Eclipse wines are powerful wines of intense flavour and structure.  This Merlot from the prestigious vineyards of California’s Napa Valley, where ideal climate and soil conditions, combined with refined growing and cellaring techniques, allow for consistent high quality treatment of grape varietals.

Harvested from the highly regarded Stag’s Leap District on the valley’s east bench, this Merlot is dry and medium bodied with a soft, supple fruity palate of plums and red berries.  Its characteristic spicy aroma, accentuated with light warm oak, foreshadows the rich, round, smooth and mouth-filling flavour experience, finishing with lengthy elegance.

The addition of ‘easy-to-use’ crushed Merlot grapes enhances the tannin and complexity of this delicious, true to style, red. A must-try for Merlot lovers everywhere.  Excellent with beef tenderloin and prime rib.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium-Full | Oak Intensity: Heavy

I attended a home brewing class at the Home Vintner and picked up my starter kit after class.  After weeks of patiently waiting, reading articles from your website and making many phone calls to the store my first batch was ready.  The exact day two weeks after bottling I popped my first cap.  It is such a rewarding experience taking the first sip of your own beer.  The Home Vintner told me to wait and let the beer get better with age but it just feels so good to drink my own brew!  They are the experts though, so I will let most of the batch age longer.  Cheers!  VS

Many home wine vintners never think of sparkling beyond champagne. If you are not a champagne drinker, it's easy to think that sparkling is not for you - or too difficult to achieve. The reality is that several of our customers and staff bring a sparkle to wines such as Rose (Seasonal Selection - almost all gone for this year), Chardonnay, or even choices from the white Limited Releases. Recently several of our staff and guild members had the opportunity to taste a selection of sparkling Island Mists, brought to us by one of our Airdrie customers.

In connection with the Canadian Celiac Association - Calgary Chapter in April we offered our first Gluten Free - Beer making class. We are the only store in Canada with gluten free beer making kits. The class was a success & we received many accolades at the end. Participants were very impressed with the quality of the gluten-free beer kits we offer.  Many are excited to get their own started at home!

Vintners Reserve Merlot - $5 Off

Wonderful plum, spice, currant and wild berry flavors.  The soft tannins of this Bordeaux varietal carry these aromas and flavors to a long lingering finish.

It is opaque and very dark ruby colored.  It opens with a fragrant ripe black cherry bouquet. On the palate, this wine is medium bodied, nicely balanced, and fruit forward.  The flavor profile is a very pleasant blend of black cherry and mild black raspberry.  There is a hint of oak and a touch of black pepper to add to its character.  The finish is dry and its moderate tannins linger quite nicely. This wine is quite versatile and would pair well with many foods.
