Results are in from this prestigious competition:
2981 entries from 13 countries (including representation from 50 U.S. States and 6 Canadian Provinces). Our guild once again sent submissions to be judged!
Congratulations to our wine guild participants: Kellie (Airdrie Staff) – GOLD and BRONZE, Ken (Calgary Customer) BRONZE and BRONZE!
WinExpert Brand kits did very well in competition, netting over 160 medals in various categories. While Eclipse, Selection and LE kits do very well, there are many surprising winners that speak to the quality of these wine kits.
World Vineyard pulled 15 medals including GOLD for wines such as: Washington Riesling, Italian Pinot Grigio, California Moscato & LE Pink Moscato (in stores now for only a brief time), German Muller Thurgau, Barolo, Trinity Red and French Cabernet Sauvignon.
Vintners Reserve pulled 9 medals including GOLD for wines such as: Diablo Rojo, Coastal Red, Merlot, Gewurztraminer, Riesling, Mezza Luna white and (most interesting) Chardonnay done up as Sherry for a gold.
Island Mist always does very well, pulling 15 medals including several GOLD and a BEST OF SHOW for a wine kit. These top wines were: Peach Apricot Chardonnay, Blackberry Cabernet Sauvignon, Wildberry Shiraz, Cranberry Malbec, Strawberry White Merlot, Nice Mist, Cranberry Pinot Grigio, Pomegranate Zinfandel, Green Apple Riesling and newer flavour Coconut Yuzu Pinot Gris.
Speciale (Dessert Style Wines) are always a big winner with Late Harvest styles such as Riesling Ice, Cabernet Franc Ice and Okanagan Peach Ice taking 10 medals. Dessert (Port) style took 13 medals including several GOLD for Blackberry, Chocolate Raspberry, Chocolate Orange, and new entrant Chocolate Salted Caramel. (Note that the seasonal release of dessert wines will be arriving in September, don't miss out on getting on the wait list!)
Eclipse (LE) Forza even made a surprise early showing with one silver and two bronze! We knew this kit was stunning, only sorry it is no longer available.
This is why The Home Vintner Wine Guild has (now) 674 medals! We stand behind our brand!
