January Wine Recommendation - Washington Yakima Valley Pinot Gris

Posted by Ron Goodhew, December 22nd, 2012 | 0 Comments

Pinot Gris is a mutation of the famous red grape, Pinot Noir. The grapes range in color from grayish-blue to light pink, making fabulous white wines that are lush and softly perfumed yet have more body than other whites. This is a delicately balanced white with 'fat' mouth-filling texture leading to aromas of honey and apples.  Crisp green apple and ripe honeydew melon command this fresh and fruity wine with a velvety finish. A versatile, food-friendly wine.

Our Eclipse Series, our ultra-premium wine kit has redefined the wine making product landscape by offering a limited number of prestigious wine styles sourced from select vineyards in the world’s great wine producing regions. Eclipse 18 litre premium winemaking kit yields wines of exceptional flavour, aroma and complexity.

Appellation: May’s Vineyard, Yakima Valley, Washington, USA

Style: Centered on the same latitude as France’s most prestigious wine growing regions.  WashingtonState is a classic cool-climate viticultural area, with the Cascade Mountains providing a complete rain shadow for the vines. The resulting arid climate, combined with the long daylight hours of the growing season, ensures that grapes fully ripen, developing complex fruit flavours, good acid levels and pleasing aromatics.

Winexpert’s Eclipse Washington Pinot Gris offers fresh aromas and flavours of ripe honeydew melon crisp green apple and an attractive floral note. The wine has an elegant, creamy finish restrained by a refreshing crispness that makes it very food friendly.

Harvest Conditions: 21.0 Brix, 4.5 g/l, pH 3.50

Similar Styles: Selection International Pinot Grigio

Food Pairings: Pair with pasta in pesto, shellfish in cream sauce or salmon in beurre blanc, or creamy cheeses with fresh fruit.

Alcohol by Volume: 12.5 - 13%

Ageing: This wine will unfold to rich complexity and even greater texture after a year in the bottle.

Sweetness: Dry | Body: Medium | Oak Intensity: None
